So it was a hot night and we showered during the night. However hotel breakfast was served at 06:30 and there were wisps of cloud over the sun and it was definitely cooler.

So we set off up a steep climb out of Gy - 5km of up, but it was through a cool forest 🌳.

The route had lots of ups and lots of downs. We were resignedly gearing down to pull up another long climb to a village on a hill when a lady pulled up in her car and suggested we might want to take a small track down to the right which led to a gravel track around the hill/village all along the flat and which met up with the road we needed as it came back down from the hill/village. Oh YES 👍🏻 . Thank you kind lady 😘.

And then more ups and downs until the old town of Besançon and our hotel 11:30 am. It’s definitely cooler 28°C. 600m of climb in a short journey.

After freshening up we wandered about 8km (very) up to the World Heritage Citadel past several cool 🌡churches, palaces, convent cloisters, river etc etc.

We saw an amazing historical astronomical clock (30,000 moving parts) with zillions of functions, time, zodiac, tides, moon, planets, religious calendars, statues that danced, ships that rocked on the waves. Unfortunately it doesn’t all work properly now and there is a research team trying to work out which of the pieces is faulty.

The city has lovely buildings everywhere. Quite lovely 🥰. And so many restaurants.
