Day 15 of definitely 16 cycling days along the Via Francigena from Piacenza to Rome.

We started the day with growing anticipation of our arrival in Rome and also of cycling in beautiful weather (for a change). We ended it in beautiful weather and, from our hilltop town, our first view of Rome below us. Along the way, we were mostly on gravel tracks meandering through and up and down rural Italy. We enjoyed drinks in pleasant bars, collected VF passport stamps from many places and enjoyed a picnic by a lake. We meandered through quiet old towns and chatted to various walking pilgrims. We viewed a set of waterfalls. We pedalled up our steepest hill so far - must be getting fitter. But we also had to push up two incredibly steep hills - basically broad footpaths - even the walking pilgrims were complaining. A very pleasant last full cycling day. What’s not to like. Now to plan our stay in Rome.
