Ho hum. Anna felt very tired last night and had developed a bit of a cold, bit of a sore throat and a bit shivery. Lots of Paracetamol and Ibuprofen. Not feeling great.

However, after a full breakfast we walked back into the old town from our hotel to visit the Royal Castle of Moncalieri - a World Heritage site - as are all the Savoy Royal Family houses in the province of Piemonte around Turin.

We discovered it was guided tours only - and only in Italian. Anyway we were shown around the rooms of various family members and kind of figured out broadly what was being shown - but not the history or finer details. The National Trust would have done it so much better!

Then we set off along main road (fortunately quiet on a Saturday morning) before joining an off-road gravel track along the River Po following the edge of Turin. Anna's headache meant we were travelling much slower on this bumpy track today. We switched sides a couple of times. We picked our way along the route which has been cleverly stitched together by Bicitalia.it. So it was a real mixture of footpaths, gravel tracks, farm roads, main roads etc. However, once we had left Turin - no pretty towns, just industrial suburbs, Amazon warehouses etc. So not enjoyable cycling. We made slow progress. We eventually made it to our lovely destination of Chivasso which has a gorgeous pretty old town where we rested for ice cream and coffee before catching our train back to Aosta.

And that is it for now for this sector of the River Po cycle ride.
